No More Wars
During the month of August the UK celebrated the 100th anniversary of the start of the first world war. It was the biggest war the world had seen up to that time. And involved the most countries up to that time. A lot more people were killed than in any other war up to that time.
When the war ended, everybody was tired, disgusted with the unprecedented loss of lives, and determined that a war like this should never happen again. The league of nations was created to ensure that there wasn’t another world war. The peace lasted exactly 21 years. Then there was another war. An even bigger war with an even greater loss of lives.
Today after 100 years, there are a few wars still raging around the world. This is ironic since according to popular belief humanity should be living in a near utopic scenario with greatly reduced wars, and crime. Man, it is claimed has evolved from a microscopic organism into a complex being. He has mastered his environment, conquered disease, created large cities, created institutions and laws to improve society. Man is constantly learning, evolving and improving himself. Yet, he cannot control his impulses. He cannot stop hurting other humans.
The Bible says the problem with man is sin. Man has disobeyed God’s laws, man has lost his innocence, man has lost control. It is easier to do wrong than to do good. Jeremiah puts it this way, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” Jeremiah 17:9 No psychologist could have described the human condition better than this ancient prophet.
But there is hope. The remedy is called conversion or the new birth. Jesus said to Nicodemus, ”Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” This new birth will make a man a new person. The craving for evil will be replaced by the craving to do good. God will give the person with the new birth the ability to live right. This new birth starts with a person realizing that he is not alright. He must want a change, and must ask for this new birth from God. It is an entirely spiritual experience. The results will be seen by others.
God is throwing out an invitation to all who would like this new birth to come to him. When he has changed them, they are reserved to inhabit a brand new world that God will create in the future. Perfect world, perfect people. I have put my name down. I want to be part of this new creation.
How about you?.
