Morning Manna.

Have you ever wondered why manna  had to be morning manna and not afternoon or evening manna. Reading Exodus 18 you will discover that manna had to be collected only in the morning. The children of Israel would have to rise early in the morning to collect the day’s supply. Every man was instructed to collect an omer for  every person occupying his tent. God manifested his supernatural power in that he that he who collected more still arrived home with no more than an omer and he that collected less did not lack.
The most crucial thing to ensure that there was sufficient food for the day was to rise early before sunrise to pick  manna. Failure to rise would mean that the family would be hungry that whole day. Something interesting also happened. Today’s manna was not for tomorrow’s provision. Any left offers would breed worms. I suppose the reason why they kept for tomorrow was that they did not have faith that the manna would fall the next day. They had to trust that God would take care of their needs each day.
Does this story of manna teach us any lessons today? Yes it does. While God is able to bless us at any time of the day, there are special blessings only available to those who go to their places of prayer early before sunrise. Jesus taught us the same example in his prayer life. “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”- Mark 1:35 KJV. David also tells us in Psalms 63:1 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” Great men in the bible were men of prayer who sought the Lord early in the morning.
There is also another important lesson. Jesus taught that he is the bread that came from heaven. John 1:1 also teaches us that he is the word that became flesh. Therefore we should not only pray but feed on his word every morning. God has fresh supplies of mercy, knowledge and wisdom every morning. We should also pray for daily infilling by the Holy Spirit. The Prayer Ministries team would like to take this opportunity to encourage all members of Milton Keynes Central SDA Church to unite in prayer for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. More Prayer, More Power!
